これから2回に分けて、
「わたしの留学体験記！」
を発信していきます。
Today, I want to share my experiences of study abroad,
as “My English Journey!”.
第一弾は,
「オーストラリア編」です。
私の留学先での経験や過ごし方などについてお話していきたいと思います。
First episode is going to be ~Life in Australia~.
I hope you can enjoy seeing some beautiful pictures from there.
わたしが留学を決めた理由
もともと海外への「憧れ」があったというのが大きな理由の一つです。
小学生のころに家族で旅行で行ったグアム。
そこで初めて”海外”を感じました。
（グアムは日本人が多かったですが…笑）
小さいながらに、文化の違いや景色、そして英語が新鮮で、ワクワクしていたのを覚えています。
英文科に入学して、留学経験のある友達の話を聞いたり、英語を勉強してさらにその「憧れ」は強くなりました。
Why did I decide to go abroad to study English?
When I was 11years old, I went to Guam with my family.
It was the first time to go abroad, so I was very excited to see many differences.
I got interested in cultures, beautiful places, and languages in other country too.
Since then, visiting different countries is one of my dream.
なぜ短期留学を選んだか
とはいうものの、
「海外や留学に関する知識なんて全くない！」
ということで大学の生協に行き、そこからいくつか留学会社や語学学校などをおすすめしていただきました。
（生協のおばさんたち優しかったなあ…）
I didn’t have no idea where to go, so I asked staffs at my university.
私が選んだ留学会社は、
「wish international」。
現地にもオフィスがあり、サポート体制が整っているという理由で選びました。
Then, I chose the agency to use.
私の学校には長期留学の制度も整っていたのですが、大学での授業の成績やTOEFLの点数も加味され、さらに面接もあるという当時の私には高き壁だった…。しかも長期留学は大学5年生までいないといけない。
私は大学を4年で卒業したかったので、2か月の春休みを使って行きました。
何より早く英語を学びたくてウズウズしていた！🤣
The reason why I chose the “short term study program” is,
I needed to graduate from the university in 4 years as I had planned.
If I went to abroad for a long time, I needed to stay the next year too.
But first and foremost, I wanted to go and study sooner.
留学先にメルボルンを選んだ理由
留学会社を決めたら、担当のスタッフの方と電話面談をしました。
そこでオススメの留学先をいくつか候補に出してもらい、決めていきました。
After deciding the agency, I talked on a phone with my support staff
about where to go and which school I go.
オーストラリアを選んだ理由は、
南半球で季節が日本と真逆！
春休み（2月、3月）に行くにはもってこいの場所だったからです。
The main reason to choose the destination is…
I wanted to escape from the super cold country🤣
当時は地元である北海道の札幌に住んでいたので、毎日氷点下…とにかく温かい国に逃げたかった(笑)
At that time, I was living in Sapporo.
It snows almost everyday in winter in Sapporo,
so I was sick of snow lol
メルボルンを選んだ理由は、
「シドニーよりも日本人が少ないよ！そして街並みが本当に綺麗なんだ。」
と言われてそれから色々と調べ、
「じゃあ、そこにします！」
てな感じであっさり決めました😂
My support staff said,
“In Australia, You will see fewer Japanese people, and you will like the beautiful scenery.”
I was like,
“Ok, let’s do it!😆”
語学学校
私は「ILSC Melbourne」という語学学校に約2か月間通いました。
I had been to the language school, called “ILSC Melbourne” for 2 months.
私は午前1つ、午後に1つクラスを取っていたので、
8:30 a.m.~1:00 p.m.
が学校の時間でした。
終わるの早すぎですよね(笑)
I took one class in the morning, and one in the afternoon.
The first class started at 8 a.m. and the second class ended at 1 p.m.,
so I had a lot of free time after school.
午前は確かメインのクラスが3時間くらいあって、それから午後は自分の弱点に合わせたクラスを選択できた気がします。私は文法や会話のクラスなどを受けました。
In the morning, I took the main class,
a grammar class and a conversation class in the afternoon.
学校が毎日早く終わるので放課後は、
“State Library Victoria”
という大きな図書館に行って勉強したり、
一人街中を散歩たり、
気になるカフェに入ったり。
時には語学学校の友達と出かけたりもしました。
After school, I used to go to “State Library Victoria” to study.
This is the best library I have every been to.
It is huge and historical like a musium.
Sometimes, I went to some nice cafes to relax too😉
わたしのホストファミリー
そもそもホームステイが初めてな私は行く前からドキドキ。事前にホストファミリーの写真を見ることができ、少し安心しました。
I was very excited to see my host family before visiting.
I got a picture of the family and I also checked their house on Google street view😂
ホストファミリーは、
イタリア系オーストラリア人。
あとはミニチュアダックスフンドのわんちゃんがホストドックでした😍
My host family was Australian of Italian descent.
My host dog was a dachshund🐕🐕🐕
閑静な住宅街の平屋。
大きいお庭に洗濯物干し。
部屋の大きいベッド。
ピンクの綺麗なベッドシーツ。
リビングの大きいふわふわのソファー。
素敵なおうちでした。
A flat house.
A big garden to hang the laundry to dry.
A comfortable bed with a pink bed sheet.
A big sofa in the living room.
I liked the house a lot.
そして何より、ホストマザーの作るディナーは最高でした！！！
イタリアン多めのごはん…少し太りましたが(笑)
I really like host mother’s cooking.
She made Italian food for dinner and I gained weigh a little 🤣
現地の友達を作るために
語学学校の様々な国籍の友人もできましたが、
オーストラリアにいるのだからネイティブの友達が欲しかったわたし。
I got some friends in school, but I also wanted to make a Australian friend.
色々と調べ、
メルボルン大学の日本語サークルに、
言語交換の場があると知り、遊びに行きました。
I searched on the Internet and found
“Language exchange in Melbourne University”.
I jumped in the club.
英語を学びたい日本人と、日本語を学びたいオーストラリア大学の学生が
チームになってディスカッションをしたりゲームをします。
なんて効率的でワクワクするサークル！😍
Some Japanese who want to study English,and
some Australian who want to study Japanese,
how effective it can be😍
we played games and had a discussion sometime.
私はそこで３人の友達が出来ました。
それから週末に一緒に出かけて色々なことを教えてもらいました。
I met 3 friends there and we hung out since then.
I learned a lot from them.
留学先で現地の友達を作りたい！という方は、
Language exchangeオススメです😊
If you want to make native friends,
language exchange is one of the option.
そんな感じて十分に楽しんだ
メルボルン生活。
何より、メルボルンという美しい街が大好きになりました。
So, I enjoyed a lot in Melbourne and
I’m glad to see the beautiful city as well.
もちろん上手くいかない日も沢山ありました。
ホストファミリーとコミュニケーションが取れなくて揉めたことも(笑)
それでもそれらの経験が自分を強くしてくれたような気がします。
帰国後は英語の勉強により火が付き、モチベーションがアップできたので良かったです。
Of course, I had a lot of tough days too, having difficulty with host family sometime,
but these experiences made me stronger.
After studying abroad, my motivation toward English had gone up.
I thought It’s exciting to be in a different country and use English in daily life.
メルボルンについて詳しくはまた語らせてください。
また行きたいな。
Let me talk about Melbourne someday again.
I hope i can go there in near future.
